Our parish will hold its winter supply drive for Oak City Cares on November 4 and 5. If you're inspired to serve those we meet in our daily lives, those who are homeless, and those who need our help, you'll have a chance to do so.
The most needed supplies are:
Black or white thick crew socks
Hand warmer packets (Hot Hands)
Winter hats
Gloves
Ponchos
Pod-style laundry detergent (not powder or liquid)
Travel-sized hand/body lotion
Travel-sized deodorant
Travel-size soap or body wash
Travel-size shaving cream
Oak City Cares is a collaboration between Raleigh, Wake County, the Partnership to End and Prevent Homeless, and Catholic Charities. It's a one-stop shop for housing and employment information, health care, personal hygiene, and food.
OCC offers a comprehensive, coordinated approach, offering onsite help and a bridge to resources. The staff provides coordinated services offered by human service professionals, medical providers, and other specialists from multiple partners.
We welcome monetary donations. Make checks payable to Oak City Cares. You may also donate online through the parish WeShare page. Your generous support has been an enormous blessing to the center as they work to care for the least among us, addressing the issue of homelessness in Wake County.
We also need help during collection times to receive the items, put them into boxes, and place them in the van. Please email Mark Ring. Teens and families with young children are welcome to help.
