In honor of the feast day of our patron saint, Mother Teresa parish will conduct our September drive for the Durham Community Food Pantry. We’ll gratefully accept food and cash donations to help feed the hungry in our neighboring communities. Please make checks payable to "DCFP."
We also need volunteers to help unload groceries from people's cars, collect monetary donations, and help load the DCFP food truck.
Here's a list of what's needed. The most urgent items are in boldface:
Canned fruits (apple sauce, peaches, fruit cocktail)
The Durham Community Food Pantry is a Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh program that works to end food insecurity in Durham and Orange counties. The program is a collaborative effort engaging multiple partners to address this incredibly important need.
Since opening in May 2019, the DCFP has grown rapidly, distributing over 1.25 million pounds of food annually. The pantry serves a vulnerable and under-served community. They distribute prepackaged and fresh groceries weekly based on family size through a traditional food pantry model.
Surrounding counties are also served through its monthly mobile pantry, where prepackaged and fresh groceries are distributed to reduce how far families need to travel to access nutritious food.
If you’re interested in volunteering at the Durham Food Pantry, please see the volunteer information in the link below. You can also get in touch with Jim Duffy. He’d be glad to talk to you about the many volunteer opportunities to help at the pantry's weekly food distribution days. Volunteer at DCFP
