The work of discipleship belongs to all the baptized, and to each, special gifts are given to ensure the continuation of the church’s mandate to proclaim the good news to all. One of those special gifts is the call to men and women to serve the people of God as priests, deacons, and in the consecrated life.
Our prayers and awareness of this important gift have never been as needed today. There isn’t a shortage of men and women being called. There is a shortage of families and young people heeding God’s call to serve.
We invite parishioners to participate in our Vocations Crucifix program. Each week, we’ll ask a family to carry the Vocations Crucifix home and pray each day to increase awareness of God’s call to serve in God’s church.
The Vocations Crucifix program is a beautiful means of fostering prayer and devotion among our parish families, the seedbeds of vocations. The crucifix reminds each host family they share in the responsibility to pray for and encourage vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life.
God is indeed still calling. The vocations are right here among us in our families, in the young people in the pews of our parish. Pray for their faithful response to him as he invites them to follow and love him in these holy vocations.
